Well, I didn't say the one hundred days had to be consecutive.
I've made my summer busier than usual, and that's by committing to spending more time in the garden plot my husband and I share with a good friend. Doing so has yielded the most productive year we've ever had, to the point where I'm tearing my hair out, trying to figure out the best uses for ALL of the greens. But these are things I'm not complaining about, as I know that soon enough this bounty will be a memory, and for some it isn't coming at all.
I have also been doing a lot of math and a little less Korean language learning. I always wanted to study Differential Equations in college, so I finally bought myself a book a few years ago and have been intermittently going back and forth with it ever since. One thing that got me through my review of my draft a few months ago was the thought that I could finally get back into my math lessons. So I did...but since I just finished the chapter on Second-Order Linear Differential Equations, I guess it's time to move on (temporarily).
I'm not good with foreign languages--yet--but math is something I enjoy doing. It's as close to a "flow state" as I've ever gotten, but better, I think. I'm not just engaged, I'm also learning as I go. While I wouldn't call it effortless, it's satisfying in a way that's different from other times I've had to learn on the fly. Perhaps, I'm sure, it's because there are no consequences to me doing it incorrectly.
Three of my kids are going away next week, and to somewhere that's even hotter than Boston is now. It makes me angry, and it literally makes me sick. I was listening to my husband and son talking about taking a walk, and just the thought of him doing so made me nauseous--I gagged. And it wasn't just thinking about him. It was thinking about everyone who is out on the streets now, and who don't have air conditioning. Or a haven where they can find air conditioning. The lack of care is cruelty, and deadly.
