Take care of each other

This is worth two days.

A trans friend and colleague of one of my children committed suicide either last night or this morning. I'm devastated, my daughter immeasurably more so.

This woman wasn't perfect, and that makes it even more of a tragedy. She was just a person trying to navigate through uncharted territory. And I don't mean because she was trans. I mean because she was trying to navigate this moment, in this hellscape, while dealing with everything else that was going on with her. She was troubled, which means that she should have been helped.

I saw her yesterday, walking to work, as I was driving back from the garden. She didn't recognize my car--there's no reason she would have--and I don't know that I'll ever be able to forgive myself for not honking my horn and waving at her.

I think, based on things my daughter said, that she didn't think she was pretty. That wasn't true, but more importantly, she emanated intelligence and nerve. She had things to live for.

The world is a darker place because she's gone from it. Make the world lighter in her honor.
