A six pushup week

My sister who was visiting from out of town with her kids left for the next leg of her journey. Always sad to see family go, but they have their reasons for not staying. My kids will get to visit her family in August, and then we gear up for the next visit in December. Hopefully more will be literally and figuratively sorted by then.

I'll miss my family, but I won't miss eating out. I have done such a good job of limiting food out that when I do it now, I can't help but be disappointed. Because most food out is just not that good. I can make better smoothies (if you have a blender, this is just a fact), and if it's a cuisine I know how to cook, I invariably make it better at home. I used to think this was because we can adjust for our tastes, but it's only partially that; restaurants and other food establishments get around the problems of mastering taste and flavor by leaning on salt, sugar, and fat. It's a parlor trick, and it gets old with the passage of time.

One thing I was able to keep up during the visit was my strength training, such that I have worked up to six full pushups (out of thirty). I'm taking it slowly--this week is six, three times a week; next week is seven, and so on, until I get to thirty. I like them as much as anyone, but I'm feeling better through my neck and shoulders as a result. Slow progress, but satisfying.

Off to do some dishes before I meet one of my children after work. Tomorrow is going to be more of a production, so I'm going to revel in how mundane all of that is.

True luxury.
